In order to prevent Software piracy, it is essential that Windows 8 is activated before it is used. Once connected to Internet, all those computers that come with pre-installed Windows 8 will automatically be activated.
If you are installing Windows 8 from a DVD, you will have to complete the installation process to activate.
# How to Activate Windows 8 ?
Before activation and verification of Windows 8, WPA (Windows Product Activation) will send an installation ID number to Microsoft.
- First a Windows 8 Product key is generated by entering an installation ID which is submitted to Microsoft by the owner.
- Secondly, Microsoft assigns a Confirmation ID, that activates the operating system software.
Windows 8 can be activated in two ways :
1) Activation through Internet.
The Product activation can be started by following these steps :
- You can display the charms menu by moving the cursor in the right corner of the Start screen.
- Select the Settings option.
- Select the Change PC Settings option.
- Click Activate Windows.
- Now click Activate.
- Enter Product key.
- If your Product key is genuine and accepted by Windows, click Activate.
- If Windows activation is successfully completed, click Close else follow the above steps again.
If you don't have Internet connection, you can activate it by contacting Microsoft over Phone.
The Product activation can be started by following these steps :

- Select Activate By Phone option.
- Before clicking Next, select your Country/Region.
- Make a call to the Toll free number.
- Listen to the instructions provided over the phone and note down the Confirmation ID,.
- Enter the Confirmation ID sequentially as provided by the Telephone system.After this click Activate.
- After successfully completing the entire process a success screen will be shown.
