How to Apply for a Passport


For travelling internationally, the National Government of every country issues a document which provides the certification of the Identity and Nationality of the holder. This document is known as a Passport.

#  How to apply for a Passport ?

To get a Passport, the applicant must follow these requisites :
  • Passport Application Form can be obtained from the passport office or the concerned speed post centres or passport outlets in your city. For Online application, download the form from http://www.passport.nic.in and register yourself.
  • Carefully fill all the particulars. The application form can be submitted either personally or through a registered post or by a person representing the applicant carrying an authorization letter. Another way is to deposit the application form at District Passport Cells or District Collectorates or DSP office or at concerned speed post centres.
  • Any proof of residence should be submitted which includes the photocopies of Voter ID cards, Telephone/Electricity bills, Ration card, Income tax bill etc, which should be self-attested.
  • Proof of DOB(Date of Birth) is to be submitted, which includes two photocopies of DOB certificate from last attended school, Birth certificate issued by a Municipal office, or district office of registrar of births and deaths if born after 26th Jan, 1989 which must be self-attested. For illiterate applicants, a sworn in certificate issued by Magistrate/Notary is to be submitted.
  • If for the last one year you have not stayed at your present address, you will have to submit a "Personal Particulars Form" in addition to the above documents for each place lived, including two self-attested copies of required documents with a photograph.
  • An NOC (No Objection Certificate) in original issued by head of your office, along with a self-attested photocopy or two photocopies of your letter to the head of your office informing your application for a passport and acknowledged by him is to be submitted, if you are a Government/Public Sector employee.
  • If there is a change in your name after marriage, produce two self-attested photocopies of husband's passport, if any, or an Affidavit and photograph of husband and wife jointly for proof.
  • Two self-attested copies of citizenship document should be submitted if you are a citizen of India by registration or naturalization.
  • All self-attested copies of documents will be cross checked with the originals at the time of submitting the application.
